![]() Stella Iverson is a senior at Aspen High School. With all of this, seniors are clearly stressed, and we will most likely be less grumpy after the first semester.įrom seniors to the community that surrounds us, let us take our own path and enjoy our last days of high school. Finding out what you want to write about is the hardest part, but once you figure it out, it all flows. The college essay is a stressful yet releasing piece of writing. They are being asked questions they don’t know the answer to yet and beginning to understand just what leaving home will entail. Applying to college is a strenuous process for your kid. Seniors are beginning to apply to colleges, which has all of us a little on edge. And it makes me feel behind and unprepared,” Hect said. “I don’t like how much everyone’s talking about college because it stresses me out. Now when it comes to college applications, seniors are well aware it is fast and approaching – so please, everyone, don’t bring it up. I feel like you gain a lot more respect as a senior,” Hect said. I honestly like the respect from the teachers. “I like being a part of our grade and getting to participate in activities that you’ve looked forward to for many years is really exciting like senior sunrise. All of these events make us happy, but sad, knowing that this part of our life will forever be over. And along with that, the thoughts of those lasts: the last ex-ed, the last homecoming game, the last homecoming, the last prom, and of course, the last day of school. But with that comes the overwhelming feeling of leaving. ![]() On the other hand, seniors are very happy to be the oldest in school, and they look forward to the senior traditions yet to come. Senior Zoe Sinclair said she doesn’t like only having one free period and thinks the rule change is unfair. This is the first time they are implementing this rule, which makes parking a fight just like in previous years.Ī big aspect of senior year is the amount of freedom one gets but this year, the rules have changed, and seniors are only allowed one free period in their schedules. ![]() This year, seniors are given parking passes, but the spots are first come, first served. Over the last few years, parking has been a challenge for those who can drive who aren’t seniors. ![]() I think it’s really unacceptable,” Senior Amelia Hect said.Īnother well-known tradition for seniors is their ability to park on campus. “Another thing I don’t like is how disrespectful the juniors are to the seniors - for example, parking in the parking lot. With the new renovations throughout the school, the boat was taken away and replaced with a foosball table that has a 10% chance of containing a foosball on any given day. Each year, seniors would repaint the boat and put their handprints all over it. The boat was reserved for seniors – and seniors only. One of the most disrespected senior traditions is the boat. And I feel like a lot of students get blamed for lacking in the career or the academic part of their senior year, when in reality, they spend a lot of their time focusing on progressing their academics in college and other things,” Aspen High Senior Tess Guilander said. I think it’s just in prioritizing their future outside of high school. “I feel like senioritis isn’t as much of students giving up on their schoolwork. For others, it is the talk of the seniors “giving up on their work” when the second semester comes around. The biggest issue facing some seniors today is the stress of college applications. The first semester of senior year is said to be the most stressful time of high school but, once the second semester rolls around, it is said to be a breeze. Some seniors may dread the day, and others cannot wait. On June 1, 2024, they will cross the stage in The Music Tent. Aspen High seniors are in the midst of sending out college applications – a stressful process for all of them.
